Our services can be provided on-site or remote.
On-site interpreting means the interpreter is present in the same room as Deaf and hearing individuals, which allows for a more direct line of sight of the interpreter for those in the room. With Remote Interpreting, a highly-trained interpreter will join through a video call and provide their services through a live feed.
TCS Interpreting and Captions provides qualified and certified interpreters, meaning they are specialists with both cultural and linguistic expertise in interpreted communication. One of the most convenient aspects of VRI is the fact that interpreters do not have to be in the same room, or even in the same state, as the event. This means there will be a much faster response if an interpreter is needed on shorter notice.

Captioning

CART stands for Communication Access Realtime Translation and is used interchangeably with Captioning. CART or captioning is the art of capturing the spoken word in a written transcript. While the speaker talks, a CART Captioner will use a stenotype machine with phonetic shorthand to display text in real-time.
The shorthand is translated by the machine’s software, instantly changing it to standard English. This allows the CART Captioner to keep up with the speaker's speed easily.
CART/Captioning is often used in group training, conferences, meetings, conventions, and classrooms. It can be done both on-site or remotely.
Our captioning services are scheduled in advance, and a writer is assigned. Prior to the session, setup of the captioning environment is reviewed. Then, the writer will verify that the audio communication is working properly. We are able to provide live captioning for your webinars through Zoom, Webex, Adobe, Gotowebinar, and more.
The captions can be viewed on various screens, including phones, tablets, monitors, laptops, and a large screen projected for the entire audience to see. The captions can also be embedded directly onto a video for better retention.
To effectively utilize CART and captioning services, it's important that only one person speaks at a time, and they must speak at a pace that is natural and not hurried.

As an alternative to on-site CART services, TCS Interpreting also provides remote CART services. It can be used in many of the same situations but without a CART provider present at your event's location.
Remote Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is similar to on-site CART services, with the main difference being that the provider is connected to the event in two ways. To hear the speaker, they listen via the phone or internet, allowing them to translate the spoken word through their stenotype machine.
Once the text is written and translated to standard English by the software, we stream it to devices used by those attending the meeting or convention. The stream can be viewed both at the event in person or even remotely, as long as the device is connected to the internet. TCS Interpreting utilizes a high-speed network for remote CART services, providing instant access with almost no delay.
CART reporters are incredibly efficient at their job, typing around 260 words per minute with extreme accuracy. This will allow everyone to get the full experience without feeling left behind.

For our video captioning services, we will use a stenotype machine to translate all of the spoken words into text, allowing viewers to read along throughout the event. This is offered for both live and recorded webinars.
If the webinar or virtual conference you’re hosting is live, we will provide a web link allowing viewers to see the captioning in real-time. We use advanced communication technology to reduce delays drastically.
Another option is an embedded iframe link. This method shows the captions right on the webinar. Some other platforms that allow us to display captions directly over the video include:
